Hello All,

The first Hayati Show and Hafla of the NEW YEAR will be on January 23rd, 2011. I am looking forward to a new year of Hayati, as I'm sure many of you are!

I would love for you to be a part of my show this year. If you haven't danced or attended one of the last two Hayati's - you are missing out!

Hayati is one of the newer Houston belly dance events in an intimate, yet professional setting with a real stage, lighting and sound.

I've got 12 performance spots available on a first-come-first-serve basis starting SUNDAY DECEMBER 26TH AT 12NOON. Please wait until then to sign-up. Early entries will be rejected.

Here are the details on my BRAND NEW Wednesday night classes starting June 2nd at Shraddha Zone in Katy!

6pm - 7pm
Beginners Belly Dance
This class focuses on building solid belly dance technique through drills and simple dance combos. Whether you are graduating from the "Intro" class or you are just beginning your dance journey, this class is for you. Taking my "Intro to Belly Dance" class first is suggested, but not required. No previous experience is necessary. Cost: $60/4 weeks - due the 1st class of every month. Drop-in anytime for $20/class.

Intermediate/Advance Belly Dance
This class will focus on mastering more complex technique and layering movements. Various dance related topics will be discussed and put into practice, i.e. improvisation, musicality, different styles (modern and folkloric), props, performance skills, etc. Some months we will focus on a specialty topic, other times we will work on choreography. Because of the small class size, Anna will give all dancers personal attention - helping each dancer become their personal best. INSTRUCTOR APPROVAL IS REQUIRED BEFORE JOINING THIS CLASS. These classes will begin in late May/early June! Exact times/date and cost will be announced soon.

The Beginner Technique class will focus on gaining mastery of beginner level belly dance movement through drills and dance combinations. We will also work on using veils and zills. Anna recommends taking the "Introduction to Belly Dance" class at Shraddha before taking the beginners technique class, but it is not required.

The Intermediate/Advance class will focus on more complex movement and layering. More in-depth, belly dance-related topics like Middle Eastern rhythms, musicality, improvisation, performance skills, style development, professionalism, as well as use of props and folkloric/traditional dances from the Middle East. Choreography will also be taught in this class. Permission from Anna is required to attend this class.

In the AM, I will be comprehensively breaking down all the essential belly dance movements for beginner and intermediate level dancers. This one is perfect for those wanting to perfect their dance technique and better understand where the movements are being generated within the body. If you are a new teacher and you are having trouble getting results from your students, this workshop will give you some ideas and approaches, to get the best from your students.

In the PM, I will be teaching an intermediate to advance level workshop covering Modern Egyptian Raqs Sharqi. This workshop will include a short discussion on hallmarks of the Egyptian style and "what makes it look Egyptian" in relation to American Cabaret style. I'll teach lots of technique to help you Egyptianize moves you already know (and some you don't). We will also learn fun Modern Egyptian-style combinations inspired by the hottest dancers in Cairo.

Kitana is also presenting a mini-show after the workshop featuring yours truely.

BD Clip of the Day Blog is NOW "RaqsVideos" Blog

YouTube. Don't fret...I can do the work for you! All you have to do is
subscribe to my new (old and renamed) blog called RaqsVideos!!

This site use to be called "BD Clip of the Day", but daily updates
wasn't working for me in 2008. So, I have decided to revive this blog,
but with less frequent updates. You'll see a great new clip roughly
weekly this time around.

RaqsVideos will feature great belly dance performances both old and
new, as well as videos on related Middle Eastern dance forms, like
Khaleegi, Tunisian, and Turkish Rom, just to name a few. You may see

Wanna Find New Arabic Music, but Not Sure Where to Look?

Sometimes finding new music to dance and listen to can be difficult.
Luckily, the internet offers many FREE options for you to sample music
without spending a dime. One website I recently found is
ArabicMusic.com - They stream Arabic music over the internet and
display artist, song, and album (most of the time). There are lots of
other music streaming sites out there that don't provide song
information. However, this one does! Now you'll know what you are
listening to, so you can go and purchase exactly what you want. Isn't
that nice!
